@atpfm
Was listening to the last episode of ATP discussing new versions of Callsheet’s icon.
I took the time to screenshot the current icon on my iPhone, and zooming in I saw this.. 🤯😂
Nod to the most amazing episode of atp - but how?!
In the App Store the Callsheet icon is still Search for Blue December.
@caseyliss
@atpfm Wow, following along listening to the icon f̵a̵w̵n̵i̵n̵g̵ critiques (😀) while looking at those through the chapter art on a non-tiny screen was a challenge!
Podcast app on AppleTV: shows the main logo only (and surprisingly many podcasts named "ATP")
Youtube: only the main logo
Pocket Casts: can show on the iPhone, not aTV
Older Overcast: on the iPhone, AirPlay to aTV, power button, left a few times, success! (Until screensaver...)
@atpfm I find it fascinating that none of you use a “mechanical” keyboard. I would think one of you would’ve gone down the rabbit hole of various switches by now.
@atpfm the grey refraction bothered me lol. I removed it using clean up , is this better or same or worse ?
New developer here, long time listener, first post on Mastadon.
This episode has convinced me that my icon sucks, so thanks for that.
@atpfm @marcoarment if you really want the branding overlap you should call your app Overdue…
@atpfm I don’t even know if this is still a thing, but is anyone going to get their new icons printed on glass?
Or, perhaps more with the moment, some full size Alan Dye glass props?
@atpfm interesting discussion of icons but I am not a fan of the magnifying distortion on callsheet and I don't know what switchglass icon represents in the new or old version. But I'm a crazy android and windows user so what do I know?
@atpfm listening to @marcoarment talk about his reminders app, I’d say the name is Kona.
@atpfm @siracusa My desktop is a Mac Mini M4. I’ve opportunistically added external SSDs (now 3x4TB). Good short term solution.
- 1 System volume is a NVMe 4.0 drive in a Thunderbolt case (OWC Express 1M2)
- 2 Photo volume (Apple Photos and LRC) is a Crucial X6. Liberal use of clones to get everything to fit. Recently made a list of files/clones and used it to move 2 TB of content to…
- 3 Overflow photo volume (legacy media) is a Samsung SATA SSD in a basic case.
@atpfm the thing @caseyliss misses in overtime is how long console hardware cycles are - e.g. the PS5 came out in 2020, with a "mid" cycle update in 2024 with the Pro model. This would fit almost perfectly with how frequently they update the non-core product lines - you don't expect to buy a new console every couple of years, or even every 5, really.
@atpfm The Derived Data folder stuff makes me think filesystems should have weak references. Just treat the space as empty, but don't delete it unless you need some space.
@atpfm @caseyliss somehow my spouse’s text tone was also set to “None”, so I changed it… and now my watch is making audible alerts for her texts even in Silent Mode (which is on 99% of the time). I think I know why I set it to None in the first place…
I suspect this is because I’ve somehow assigned her heightened permissions to break through (maybe via Favorites in the Phone app??)
@boxed The stuff in there is important/necessary for building your app, so you don't want it disappearing mid-build because the OS needs space. (Also, Apple's OSes have the concept of "purgeable space" which is more like what you're asking for.)
@siracusa Sure... but if you are that badly out of space, maybe your machine is screwed anyway :) I've had quite a few full disk incidents where xcode was a significant part and those were projects I hadn't touched in months.
@des1gnerd @atpfm I would've liked that, and in fact, Kona was my original backup name if Apple wouldn't let me use Reminder.
But as it turns out, there's a LOT of productivity software in the world, so trademark conflicts are EVERYWHERE. In this case, there were two that were in close enough areas that no trademark lawyer would ever have advised that I try to use the name myself:
@marcoarment @des1gnerd @atpfm the icon /is/ really nice. but I'm getting eastern seaboard vibes from it. So not Kona. But I did think the same thing as I was listening, without seeing the icon. I thought of these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maunakea_Observatories
@simplefuel It’s not terrible! (My Tahoe icons are terrible.) But it could be a lot better…
Ideally, like I said, it should be better than your app!
@siracusa "Not terrible" was what I was aiming for.
I have a new version in the works. I'm still on the Sequoia version of Icon Composer and am skipping Tahoe, but I think it'll look nice once I update to Golden Gate and apply the glass effects.
@marcoshuerta I used an Apple Extended II until RSI got me and I switched to low-effort keys.
@siracusa @marcoshuerta it's the wide layout that gets me on those. mouse too far right. the side benefit is that the laptop and the Magic Keyboard are almost exactly the same.
@paaskesen @atpfm Only way that can happen is if you change it. 🤷🏻♂️
